About this journal

Sometimes a small thing sets you off, like a tone of voice, a forgotten invite, or being told to "just relax," and the reaction feels much older than you are. Other times, the smell of a certain merienda or a song from grade school makes you light up for no reason at all.

That's the kid you used to be. They never really left.

Small Wonder is an inner child journal for getting reacquainted with that younger self, gently and at your own pace. It starts by remembering who you were: how old, where you lived, what you loved, and what you were like before the world started editing you. Then it helps you notice when that little one still speaks up in your adult life, and what they might need from you now. People call this reparenting. Here, it mostly looks like short, kind entries and a little more patience with yourself.

It's also more fun than you might expect. Play is half the work, so there's room for coloring, favorite childhood snacks, and the things you loved without any self-consciousness. Two rules keep it kind: this is about understanding, not blaming, and nothing asks you to relive painful memories in detail. You can write around the edges of anything heavy, or skip it entirely.

What's inside

  • Meeting Little Me — a snapshot of who you were, what you loved, and your good memories
  • Listening pages — gently explore needs, feelings, and what still gets stirred up
  • 50 daily check-ins — a few minutes each, so this becomes a small habit instead of a big project
  • 12 reparenting practices — play, comfort, and kinder self-talk you can actually try
  • Both of Us Now — pages for bringing your younger and present self together
  • A ground-rules page up front — your pace, your safe spot, and who you can talk to

It's for adults doing quiet personal work, people already in therapy who want something between sessions, and anyone who's realized they're kinder to everyone else than to themselves. It can be a gentle gift for a close friend who's been talking about reparenting, tucked in with her favorite childhood candy.

Small Wonder keeps you company; it isn't therapy. If the pages stir up more than a journal should hold, a counselor or therapist is the kindest next step, and this book works well alongside one.

Be gentle. Little you has been waiting a long time for recess.
