About this journal
You sit on the bench by the pool for forty minutes, watching through the glass. Afterward, you ask how the lesson went. "Good." What did the teacher say? "I don't know." And by the time you reach the car, the whole lesson has dried off along with the towel.
My Swimming Journal gives those lessons somewhere to land. It's a kids' swimming journal written for the child to read and fill in on their own, in plain words on short pages. Before a lesson, they read one skill page. After, they write what happened while it's still fresh, including the tip their teacher gave them.
Water safety comes first, before a single stroke. There's a page of water rules, a spot to write down their own pool's rules and where the shallow end is, and a gentle reminder that saying "I'm tired, cold, or scared" is smart, not babyish. The whole book leans toward feeling calm in the water over going fast.
Then come three badges to earn. The Splash Badge is bubbles, floating, and gliding. The Stroke Badge is front crawl, breathing to the side, and a first long swim. The Swimmer Badge covers all four strokes, turns, a first gala, and helping others. Kids get something real to aim for besides "the next level."
What's inside
- 12 swim logs — what they practiced and how it went
- 12 drill trackers — so they can see their distances and skills grow
- 9 "My Big Swim" logs — stroke, distance, rest, and how it felt
- 6 "Notes From My Teacher" pages — the corrections that usually vanish by the car
- 15 skill pages across three badges, plus a check page for each badge
- Water rules, a swim kit list, goal pages, and self-reflection pages
- A progress chart, a milestone wins page, a glossary, and "My Swimming People"
It's for kids, roughly ages 6 to 12, in weekly lessons, whether they've just started or have been going a year and could use a fresh push. It's a nice summer gift from a ninang or lolo, especially tucked into a swim bag with new goggles (which will be lost by August).
Small swims count. This journal makes sure they're written down.
